Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,
Everybody was wrapping packages – toys, a blender, a blouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that the gifts inside would be precious and rare.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of new video games instead danced in their heads.
And mama in her pajamas and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap.
When all of a sudden I looked at the tree,
And realized that something was making me feel less than merry.
The presents, the gifts, the toys and the stuff,
Were never, ever going to be enough.
Sure, for a day they’d all be delighted and thrilled,
But soon the holiday spirit would be gone and killed.
And then what of the presents and the Christmas day thrill?
The latter would fade, the former go to a landfill.
So I woke up the kids, the pets and the wife,
And told them it was time to embrace a real life.
To my surprise, they instantly understood,
And wanted to know what we should do, and what we could!
So we packed the presents back into the car from the trunk to the floor,
With plans that next day, we’d return them to the store.
Then we sat close to each other and told stories all day,
And not once did we wish we’d done anything else for the holiday!
From all of us to all of you, we hope you like our parody that was off the cuff,
And this holiday season we’re sincerely wishing you the Satisfaction of Enough!
