Ah yes, spring is definitely on its way, and that’s a good thing! Not only is there more sun, the temperature is warming up, and it’s time to start some spring cleaning. But if you’ve started phasing out chemical-filled house cleaning solutions, maybe you don’t really have the budget to buy store-brand environmentally-friendly cleaners. You can make your own using organic ingredients – for a fraction of the price. Here are 3 eco-friendly cleaners you can make at home using everyday grocery items.
Window Cleaner: A simple window and mirror cleaner can be made with two ounces of vinegar to a quart of water.
Drain Cleaner: Clean your drains by first pouring half a cup of baking soda into the drain, and then adding a cup (or even a little more) of vinegar. Cover up the drain and wait a few minutes. Afterward, rinse away the vinegar and baking soda with a mix of boiling water and salt.
Silver Polish: If you have some silver items that need a polish, take a sheet of aluminum foil and put it in the bottom of a glass bowl. On the sheet, sprinkle some baking soda and salt before filling the bowl with some warm water. When you soak your silver in the bowl, the tarnish should fall off onto the foil. Once the tarnish is gone, the items are ready for drying and buffing.
