As postconsumers takes root and becomes a movement, the characteristics of a postconsumer begin to emerge! No, there’s no secret handshake (yet!). However, you’ll find a number of similar characteristics that identify members of the community and those who are learning to embrace the satisfaction of enough. Here are five ways that you can try to determine if somebody is heading toward club postconsumers!

1 Postconsumers Glare at the “Impulse Buy” Shelves

If you’re checking out of the grocery store or department store and you see somebody actively glaring at the “impulse buy” shelves next to the cash register, that person is probably a postconsumer (or, potentially, somebody who just really hates lines!). Postconsumers understand that those impulse buy shelves take advantage of the worst consumer training that we receive in society.

2 Postconsumers Accept that Shopping Can Be Fun

That said, Postconsumers don’t considering shopping to be the mark of evil! We can all learn to live with less, and live within our means, without giving up shopping entirely. Shopping to make ourselves feel better or keep up with a societal standard? Postconsumers don’t believe in that. But shopping can be social, and certain items can contribute to making memories and happy homes. Not every shopping trip is a bad trip.

3 Postconsumers Stop in the Moment

If you see somebody standing and pausing for a moment to enjoy the view, the weather, the sounds in the air or even the taste of a banana, that person may very well be a Postconsumer. Postconsumers know that stopping in the moment is an important way to train yourself to appreciate things as they are happening.

4 Postconsumers Break Statistics

Maybe not all statistics, but Postconsumers definitely break the statistic of watching thirty hours a week of television and up to fifteen leisure hours a week on the internet. Postconsumers have found other ways to satisfy themselves and are busting through mass media statistics.

5 Postconsumers Use the Phrase “Satisfaction of Enough” … A Lot!

Both to remind themselves as well as to train others, you’ll hear Postconsumers saying “I have the satisfaction of enough with this lunch” or “I’m experiencing the satisfaction of enough in this moment” frequently! There’s a reason that we’ve adopted the phrase. And that reason is because it’s what we all believe in finding.

Of course, we hope to someday have a not-so-secret handshake, but until then, you can find your brother and sister postconsumers by looking for the signs above!
