You have to assume that with any blog that has a quote of the week, it’s only a matter of time until there is a quote by Persian poet Rumi. Of course, eventually there is. This week’s quote of the week is:
“Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.” (Rumi)

We think that’s just a glorious way of saying “find the satisfaction of enough.” You will find your satisfaction in life when you can make your life be about the beauty of doing things that you love. That may be many things. It may be raising a family. It may be writing. It may be baking. It may be distance running. The number of things that you can truly love and that can make you feel completed goes on and on. We often lose sight of the fact that finding something we love, and making our lives about it, is what will ultimately leave us happy and satisfied. We get lost in the rat race, the “keeping up with the Joneses,” the consumerism that we’re all trying to find relief from, even the media. But in our cores, we all really know what somewhere there is something that will make us happy.

We do think, though, that we all need to keep our expectations realistic. We all probably still need to earn a paycheck. We all still have obligations that we need to meet. Part of finding satisfaction is finding a way to incorporate the things that make us happy and that we love into the life that we have to lead. Finding that balance can sometimes be as tricky as identifying what it is that will really be what we love.
If, by the way, you’ve never read any Rumi, we suggest adding him to your reading list. Many people we know have found his writing to be transformative, and we think that you may as well. At worst, you’ll enjoy some finely crafted poetry that will leave you thinking!
