You might actually be surprised by how much time and energy we put into memes and visuals at Postconsumers. Partially because it’s fun, but also because we don’t want to fall into the trap of just filling the internet with more litter. We’re sure there are times when we do the latter (Halloween cat meme anybody?), but we are actually quite proud of some of the visual directions that we’ve taken this year. So, without further ado, here is our list of our best memes of 2015.
January: Clutter and the Modern World
Our content feature this January was on clearing clutter from your home, and our visual memes were a series of our favorite quotes about clutter and its impact on individuals. We picked this one as our best-of based on user shares and feedback. Want to get inspired with more clutter quotes and all of our de-cluttering content? Visit our De-Cluttering Resource Hub.
February: The Definitions of Postconsumerism
In February, we added five new definitions to our glossary of essential postconsumer terms and made dictionary-style memes to go with them. As our favorite, we picked one of the core terms of addictive consumerism, “Keeping Up with the Joneses.” What else is in the glossary? Browse it and share all the definitions right here.
March: Rachel Carson Speaks
In March and April we prepared for Earth Day by sharing quotes of two of our favorite naturalists. March’s featured quotes were from Rachel Carson. We feel as though we could have picked any quote from this list and labeled it as our best-of, but we chose one that we think really speaks to the message that she was trying to convey. You may have your own favorite though. Browse all of our Rachel Carson quotes right here.
April: John Muir Speaks
We continued our focus on nature and earth quotes in April with a feature on John Muir. Again it was a situation where we felt as though we could have picked any quote and visual from that series to list as our favorite and we’d certainly encourage you to browse the entire collection of John Muir quotes. We settled on this quote, however, as much because of the quote as because of the visual.
May: An Upcycling Project for Your Cat
Yes! There is a cat meme in this list! In May, we researched a huge list of fifty items that you can upcycle into amazing things. We also picked ten of those to turn into fun example visuals (though the entire article is full of visuals). There was no choice when we selected our top memes of the year that May’s representative would be the cat tent! See the entire list of fifty things to upcycle here.
June: Virtual Travel On Your Screen
Our June memes and visuals were both inspiring and depressing. They inspired by showing some of the most beautiful places on the planet, but they were tinged with sadness because they were part of our campaign about places to visit before climate change destroys them (or more accurately we destroy them through man-made climate change). The example below moved us the most, but you may have another pick. See the entire list of places to see before they’re gone here.
July: Less-Is-More Month
Our theme for July was “Less is More” and we did a pared down set of visuals with eleven of our favorite quotes on the topic. While we loved them all, the featured one on this list was above-and-beyond our favorite. We think that it’s such a moving quote not only about “stuff” and consumerism but also about life in general.
September: Visualize the Yard Sale
Education is always the focus in September at Postconsumers. This year we featured quotes about financial tips and philosophies to help everybody all around. We got such amazing feedback on this meme below about thinking of your future yard sale before you buy something. We agree that this was the best of the batch, but you can see all of our money memes here.
October: Norman Bates It Is!
It’s no secret that we’re big Halloween fans at Postconsumers. We’ve been posting our favorite Halloween quotes and visuals for a few years now. This year we picked four of our favorite Halloween movie quotes, just for fun. And naturally our favorite one was about being a little bit crazy! Browse our entire collection of Halloween quotes right here.
November: Better Than Black Friday
Every year in November we update our #BetterThanBlackFriday list with new visuals. This year, we wanted to capture a sense of color and sizzle, because doing things other than shopping on Black Friday should be fun. We picked one of our favorite activities as our featured best-of meme, but you can see the entire list of fifty right here.
