The first big summer blockbuster of 2012 is clearly The Avengers, which brings together some big-name actors from other big-budget blockbusters in an effort to cash in on the comic book nerd market which is so prevalent these days. With an estimated budget of about $260 million, it’s already surpassed making that money back in Europe, where it opened early, and looks to make a lot of money as it finally opens in the States. Add on top of that all the toys, special products, and fast food tie-ins. The early part of the summer looks to be occupied by the likes of superheroes.
Kids love superheroes, and adults who love superheroes have a lot of nostalgia about their favorite childhood memories – which makes a movie like The Avengers a huge deal for Paramount Pictures, the major studio that’s putting it out. The average Postconsumer is already well aware that the promotion has been hitting television and the Internet pretty hard in the past few weeks, and will stay steady for the next few months or so as more summer movies are released to compete with it. But what if your kids ask for a toy? Chances are all the other kids will be talking about Avengers toys, clothes, or other swag. Instead of giving in, why not ask your kids to act out their own version of The Avengers instead? You might even want to consider scouring yard sales and even thrift stores for discarded toys based on the superheroes in the movie.
