We all know about items you can upcycle and recycle to help reduce clutter and make your home or apartment a less stressful place and do your part for the environment, but you can go even further by investing in simple reusable items that will help reduce your carbon footprint even more! Check out these reusable gems!
Eco-Friendly Kitchen Utensils and Storage Containers
We recently told you about reusable eating utensils for when you’re out and about and don’t want to use plastic throwaway forks, knives, and spoons that are harmful to the environment. Buying plastic storage containers can also be a trap because of the chemicals they’re made from, but a cursory Google search will bring you many hits on where to find eco-friendly glass and plastic storage containers that are made of recycled and pollution-reducing materials.
Health-Conscious Water Bottles
We’re all familiar with the barrage of water bottles that hit landfills every year (and that huge island of trash floating out in the Pacific). If you haven’t invested in a BPA-free plastic or recycled aluminum water bottle, what are you waiting for? They’re awesome! I use one for just about everything – from workouts, to hiking, to picnics at the park. (Plus they’re great for keeping track of how much water you’ve been drinking during the day, which is so helpful!)
Multi-Function Shopping Bags
Years ago, I had a “eureka!” moment when I realized that I could just throw my school swag bags in my car for the next time I went grocery shopping. (Yes, it was a serious face-palm moment, let me tell you!) As a single person, it’s very helpful for not only reducing plastic bags that always end up in the landfills, it also reminds me that I shouldn’t deviate from my shopping list. My list is enough to fill the bag (usually), so it’s a great way to stick to what I need from the store.
