Summertime means it’s more tempting to be lazy. The warmer weather makes it very difficult to want to get off the couch and get out there. But you don’t have to be stuck on your bum! Here are a few things to get you motivated this summer.
Make a list of goals
If you know you’re going to have more free time this summer, it’s never a bad time to set some goals that you can complete in 3 months. There’s always a compost to be started or house chores to get done. Think about making a schedule of weekly tasks that need to happen and fun pursuits too. If there are projects that haven’t been started yet, make a timetable. For me, I make writing goals that I know I can finish by the end of August.
Embrace the early morning walk
How well do you know your neighborhood? How about getting up a little earlier in the morning (I know, I know, make it gradual if it seems like too much) and taking a nice stroll around the block? The weather’s a little cooler, you’ll get some exercise, and can think about what you want to get accomplished that day. I used to run around my block when I was training for a half marathon, and it gave me a cool perspective on where I live.
Volunteer
It’s also never a bad time to volunteer at a local charity if you have any spare hours. Just like in the winter, the homeless need food and water to survive out there, so any help is necessary. Or if you’re a swimmer, volunteer to teach swimming to local kids or be a lifeguard on the weekend. The summer’s also a great time to be a volunteer firefighter – many cities are short on help because of wildfires.
