June is the favorite month for weddings, and why not? It’s usually warm and calm outside, everybody’s in a good mood, and everything’s in bloom. If you’re still on a budget, shopping for your friends can be a daunting task because you want to be thoughtful and you want to move beyond all that consumerism. Here are some ideas for eco-friendly and affordable gifts for that special couple:

Composting bin (you can find these on Amazon for about $20)

Windowsill herb garden

Recycled glassware (or glassware from a local thrift store)

Organic gardening kit

Books on gardening or vegetarian cookbooks

Homemade candles (especially with locally-sourced flowers!)

A charitable donation in their names (think World Wildlife Fund)

Cool art from a flea market or antique sale

A handmade picture frame

Small solar-powered items like flashlights or chargers

Plant a tree in their names

Reusable shopping bags

Of course, every couple’s different, so give accordingly! I’ve given handmade candles to some married friends before, and they loved them. Giving something a little different means you’ve thought a little more about them and the impact they’re going to make on the world. A lot of couples just put so much stuff on their registries that could be upcycled from their friends. Why add to all that junk when it could be reused, right?
