With the warmer weather already here for some of us (it’s already almost 100 degrees here in Vegas!), it’s time to start thinking about our summer budget. We’ve already talked about the staycation as an alternative to expensive trips. This summer may call for a new bathing suit or an outfit for an event this season (June’s the most popular month for weddings)! As with any time of year, keep to your budget and stay focused!
Bathing suits: get crafty!
If you’re a champ at sewing, you can turn your old bathing suit into any number of accessories such as headbands or bracelets. I’ve seen friends of mine turn 1-pieces into 2-piece wonders! But if you’re not that good with thread and needle, but can still do a little something, don’t count out the thrift store. Just try on suits with your underwear on, and when you get home, use the material from an old T-shirt as lining. And do a little research – there may be a charity in your area that will take old suits.
Don’t over-commit yourself
The summer means more stuff to do, which means more money you won’t have to spend. The urge to want to go out and do every single thing is strong, and eventually you’ll double-book yourself and be stressed out. Take a minute to think about how often you can go out during the week. Don’t be afraid to think ahead and budget out how much activities will cost. I do this with a calendar, marking events ahead of time.
Seasonal sales: don’t buy it
Old clothes don’t have to mean they’re completely useless. Mix and match what you have in your closet. Don’t get sucked into these summer sales just because it’s nice outside. A little imagination can go a long away. And, of course, don’t forget the thrift store again!
You can still have fun this summer, even if you’re budgeting. Staying away from unnecessary clothes and other summer items will help save money and reduce your debt. Remember: Stay focused! The more you’re on budget, the less stress for the summer!
