The list of Hollywood starlets of the last decade whose lives have tragically ended or been altered (because we certainly hope that Lilo cleans herself up) by personal implosions and the abuse of drugs and alcohol is getting longer and longer. Anna Nicole Smith was, at one time, the poster girl for this sad story. However, a club of girls has joined Anna Nicole, including Casey Johnson, Brittany Murphy, and currently the downward spiral of Lindsay Lohan. And let’s not forget Britney Spears trip to the dark and crazy side just a few years ago.
But what drives these women (and so many other Hollywood celebs of both genders) to such self-destruction? It would seem that they have everything: fame, money, the finest clothes, expensive vacations, and some of the world’s most desirable men chasing after them. After all, aren’t those the things that bring satisfaction? The answer, of course, is a resounding, loud, screaming “No!” If ever there was an example of the fact that money (and fame, for that matter) don’t bring happiness, it’s the story of these women.
So what could have been done differently? There’s a popular theory that it’s all to blame on the parents. We don’t think that’s entirely true, but we do think that it’s a parent’s responsibility to help their child learn how to be happy in life and what things will truly bring them happiness. That was probably missing in many of these young women’s lives. However, ultimately, every adult individual is responsible for making choices about what will make them happy. The women we mentioned above? Somewhere, in their minds, they knew that they would be happier walking away from the shallowness, materialism and pressure of the lives they were leading. But they seemingly were too lured by the mental and material trappings of celebrity to make that choice.
There are celebrities who have made that choice though, selecting a quieter life of happiness and peace of mind and satisfaction over fame and money. Dave Chappelle walked away from his career at his peak to return to Ohio and live peacefully on a farm. People called him crazy, and we don’t hear anything about him any more.
We do hear a lot about Anna Nicole, Lilo, and Brittany Murphy.
That just goes to prove that Dave Chappelle made the right, wiser, decision. Do you think that there’s a curse to being a Hollywood starlet, or are we just too jaded? Friend us on Facebook and let us know what you think!
