Since, earlier this week, we discussed the possible duality of Oprah Winfrey and whether she represents more of a charitable, postconsumer attitude or more of a consumer, materialistic attitude, we thought that we would give the quote-of-the-week space to the Queen of Daytime (and so many other things) herself:
“I define joy as a sustained sense of well-being and internal peace – a connection to what matters.”

If it helps you decide which side of the Oprah debate you come down on, we agree with her definition. It does, however, beg the question for some “Does too much of what matters to Oprah involve expensive handbags and luxurious homes?” As we previously said in our blog post on Oprah, we focus on the incredible amount of good that this billionaire has brought into the world. Some people do, however, question whether her lifestyle needs to be quite as opulent as it is given her philosophical preaching on the ways to find happiness and joy.
We actually found a second Oprah Winfrey quote that we also believe sums up this confusion that we feel about her:
“If you want your life to be more rewarding, you have to change the way you think.”
Again, we couldn’t have said it better ourselves, and we agree one hundred percent with the sentiment. In fact, this entire blog is devoted to helping you find ways to change the way you think. But is it a little too easy for a billionaire with the ability to have or do whatever she wants to tell us to change the way we think when she, in fact, doesn’t have to?
Oprah is, undeniably, inspiring as those two quotes prove. Got another Oprah quote that you love? Friend us on Facebook and share it with us!
