Postconsumers isn’t the only group of people out there exploring the idea of satisfaction and consumerism, or for that matter just happiness! Many people have said many brilliant things on the topic, and each week we’ll bring you one for discussion. This week’s quote of the week is:
“Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action.” Benjamin Disraeli
Sometimes, wise things are said by unexpected sources. Benjamin Disraeli was British Prime Minister in 1868 and then again from 1874 until 1880. Disraeli, in addition to being a lifetime politician, was also a literary figure.
What we love about the quote above is that it so eloquently sums up what we feel is the key to finding satisfaction. You can’t find satisfaction, or happiness, without first taking action. Despite what the fairytales will tell you, happiness isn’t just out there looking for you. It’s hard work to go through the process of changing bad habits that haven’t led you to a place of satisfaction and replacing them with action, goals and ways of living that do exactly that. We’ve been trained for years, decades even, to think that a certain set of goals will make us happy. In truth, many of us need to revisit what we believe will lead us to satisfaction. Of course, we obviously think that the Get Satisfied Interactive Handbook is a great start to doing this. However, we’d be happy if you just took Benjamin Disraeli’s advice and took some action, any action, that led you closer to happiness. Even if it’s a small action like re-organizing the kitchen cabinets so you’re not looking at clutter every morning before breakfast!
